Thank Yous

Big Thank Yous

The biggest and final thanks must be saved for Melissa, my wife, the best travel agent ever, and of course, travel companion.

Our twins, who have enjoyed, or perhaps endured, accompanying us over the years. Both twins have managed to maintain the family tradition of travel; Alex (in his self created campervan, called Steve) and Natashja.

This online gallery would not be possible without the help of the wonderful people from many countries who have provided modes of transport in various shapes and forms.

The proud taxi drivers across Japan. The Shinkansen, bullet trains of the Japanese Railways. The local bus service in Madagascar. Chris W, my travel guide across Botswana and Zambia in many a Cessna flight. Thank you for the photographs of me, the Photographer and your valuable insight into identifying the leopards!

To all of the amazing guides

and spotters across the African continent with the superhuman vision, although on the odd occasion, perhaps the sightings have been a little too ‘up close and personal’ with the Big Five, plus cheetah, hippo, wild dogs and leopard; just ask Nigel on the passenger side of the jeep!

Carlos, Lucky, Dux, Gordon, Doc, Russell, Ike, OD and the unnamed guide at Little Tubu, who drive in the most challenging environments, including over bridges!

To Moalosi,
The concession manager at Chitabe, in Botswana, for creating and dining with us at the Pop Up restaurant on High Banks in the Okavango Delta. In my humble opinion, the best view in Africa, clearly fought over by hippos.

To Duke
for the unforgettable driving experience across the savannah to secure the best view of The Three Boys on Fossil Road, and despite the urgency, always conscious of animal welfare, executing a perfect emergency stop; “didn’t you see the tortoise!”.

To Caeser
Our guide across Namibia. Sleeping under the stars until one night he announced that “he, very unusually, did not know the particular pride of lions around here”. Pug marks in the morning around our tent were proof that he was right to seek safety within the jeep.

To Mrs WOW, at Wilderness,

Née Dineo James for always creating wonderful new safari experiences, Zara, for her fine selection of wines in camp and Melissa for her generous 50th birthday gift of a trip to Zambia, although it subsequently cost me a fortune in return visits!

My thanks go to Steve Hedges, professional photographer and tutor (stevehedgesphotography.co.uk), for all of his guidance over the years.

Not forgetting Mary Grimwood at Safari Consultants. A proper travel adviser with an infinite knowledge of all things Africa. Just email mary@safari-consultants.com to prove my point.
